Today, Helium is growing up. We’re leaving invite-only with version 0.4.4 and opening up registration to anyone!

We’d like to extend a special thanks to all our users who accepted invites and participated in the early access program for Helium. We couldn’t have done this without you!

But feedback doesn’t end with our invite-only program! We want to  continue hearing from all of our users, so drop us a line with ideas you’d like to see in future versions of Helium.

Helium 0.4.4 comes with even more new features and improvements that we’re really excited about and have highlighted below.

New Features

• iCal is now supported as an import/export format
• iCal feeds can now be enabled so Helium calendars can be synced with other calendar applications

Improvements

• Email addresses and phone numbers for accounts and reminders now require one-time verification for improved reliability and security
• Added more regional cell phone carriers for text reminders for our largest user groups outside the United States, including Brazil, Canada, Italy, Poland, and more (request yours here)
• Improved category weight display
• Improvements to website when accessed from a mobile device
• New pages: /plans and /press

Bug Fixes

• Fixed issues when adding/editing multi-day assignments and events
• Fixed minor drag-and-drop all-day issues
• Fixed issues when displaying URLs as clickable links in comments
• Fixed issue when importing uncategorized assignments
• Various other minor issues addressed

Upgrade to Paid

Basic Helium accounts will continue to be free now that registration is open to anyone. But upgrading to a paid account gives you even more. Upgrading guarantees you’ll never see an ad, it supports the continued development of Helium, and it gives you access to even more features that will help you stay ahead in your classes, including:

• Receive due date reminders on your phone
• Attach files to assignments, events, and classes
• Organize your supplies, textbooks, and other materials
• Analyze overall grades for individual classes and for each academic term
• Review grade distribution per class and see how grades are trending by assignment category, class, and academic term
• Sync schedules from external calendars like Google Calendar with Helium, or sync Helium with other calendars
