Ding 0.4.2 and 0.4.3

Whew. Two weeks ago we released Dingo 0.4.2, and today we’re releasing version 0.4.3!

These are both what we call “minor releases”, which is a fancy way of saying “no major new features here, just polishing the silverware.” Except in this case the silverware is calendars and widgets and grades, because we thought those seemed more fun.

Anyway, these versions improve on existing features and fix bugs here and there. The highlights are detailed below for your perusal.

Improvements

Calendar and Reminders

  • Start/end date/time fields were reworked to be more compact and intuitive
  • Grades can now be input as points-based rather than just percentages
  • Comment fields can now contain text styling and formatting, for instance entering italics or creating a bulleted list
  • “Event” items on the calendar no longer need to be marked as “Complete”
  • When switching to “List” view the first time after the page loads, the list will jump to the item nearest today’s date
  • Reminders can now be sent via text message to several major U.S. carriers

Classes and Materials

  • You can now specify a teacher’s email address, and clicking on the teacher’s name will launch your default email client to send them an email
  • Details fields can now contain text styling and formatting, for instance entering italics or creating a bulleted list

Grades

  • Up/down arrows next to grades now show whether a grade for a category, class, or academic term is currently “trending” up or down
  • A new pie chart shows the current grade distribution between categories, if a class uses weighted grading
  • Charts now support hovering your cursor, so for instance you can now move your mouse over a point on the graph to see the grade for a class at that particular point in time

Bug Fixes

  • Resolved cases where grades were calculated and/or displayed inaccurately
  • Resolved issues where category weights were set to “Empty” instead of “N/A”
  • Improvements to the performance of filters on the Calendar page
  • Fixed display inconsistencies when adding/editing external calendars
  • Characters for non-English alphabets are now fully supported, which resolves numerous issues, including import/export failures
  • Other minor bug fixes

The End

We’re hard at work on even more awesome improvements and new features, but for now, study hard and we’ll keep you posted!
